Cabo Frio is proud to announce its 45th anniversary in the recording arts industry during a celebration concert on November 14, 2024, at Lovin’ Cup, 300 Park Point Drive, Rochester, NY, 14623, 6PM-10PM (EST).
The legendary internationally known contemporary jazz band emerges from the musically fertile Upstate New York – home of other acclaimed musicians like Cab Calloway, Chuck Mangione, and Steve Gadd.

Dating back to 1979, members of the group area joined forces. Curtis Kendrick, a formidable band leader, composer, drummer, and producer, has been at the helm of Cabo Frio since its origination.
The band’s new lineup consists of David Labman on piano, bassist Carlton Wilcox and longtime bassist Mark Russell, who has been with the band for over 25 years. Also joining are childhood friend Ron Haywood on percussion and national recording artist Judah Sealy, who is making waves in the national music scene.
Cabo Frio ignited with global stardom when its recording career launched with the release of its self-entitled album in 1982. A fusion of ideas, cultural identities, and genres of music is the best way to describe the veteran jazz band.

“More than 4 decades is a very long-time to be in the business, and it’s all because of the fans who have been there for us from the very beginning,” said Cabo Frio band leader, Curtis Kendrick. “We are excited to celebrate this milestone anniversary now and for many years to come.”
Cabo Frio’s discography includes: eight albums with the following labels: MCA Records, GWE Records, and Kezia Records. Through the earlier years, the band has performed with the likes of Buddy Rich, the late Phyllis Hyman, Jeff Lorber, Joan Jett, The Yellow Jackets, Dave Valentine, Paquito D’Rivera, The Crusaders, Joe Sample and many more. The band also appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show and performed the theme song for the new Leave It to Beaver sitcom.

Additionally, Cabo Frio has participated in national jazz festivals, sharing the bill with such notables as the late Miles Davis, Carlos Santana, and Kenny G. The group has also appeared regularly across the country at such venues as the Newport Jazz Festival, Blue Note in New York City, Blues Alley in Washington D.C., the Baltimore Inner Harbor Concert Series, and Carnegie Mellon Hall in Pittsburgh, PA.
Named after a city in Brazil, Cabo Frio has strived to reflect cultural diversity in its music. As the band embarks on this new chapter, members are excited to produce a fresh new collection of songs that honors the band’s roots while looking to the future.
